YOUNG ARTISTS' COMPETITION, MARCH 2005 Click on photos to enlarge.
The Young Artists Competition
was held in Grants Pass Monday through Saturday at the Fire House Gallery
through March 2005. The show featured local young
artists in response to a Sister Cities International competition as
a means of encouraging
them to think about world peace and harmony. The winning piece will be sent to the
international competition. The show included approximately 20 pieces of art as well as examples of Russian artifacts.
A reception for the artists, including food and awards presentations was
held on March 15.
Note from Sister City President,
Carolyn Rice:
I just wanted to let everyone know what a great success the reception for the
young artists who entered the
Sister City competition from this area was!
Thanks are due to Nancy, who organized it, and created a program for the event
(and was the master of ceremonies),
Ruth who got gift certificates for winners, Sister City members who provided
the food for the event, not to mention
Fritz who contacted all the teachers to get them interested and got really good
participation. And thanks to all
of you who came to support the event by being there.
What a good chance it was to get people together with artists so they could
talk and make new connections,
renew old ones, and connect faces to names. There were about--I'd guess--40
people there: parents, students,
their friends, and the three participating teachers. It was fun talking with
the young artists and having them
explain their ideas, and to listen to the teachers describing how different
students responded to the task.
And Ruth and Fritz and Nancy had a chance to talk to the students there to think
about for a future students
delegation in 2006--and there looked to be considerable interest among the
people there!
It was just what an artists reception should be!
